Audiology & Speech Language Pathology

Overview

Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology started functioning in the year 1999. An efficient team of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists work independently and in collaboration with other medical and allied medical departments to diagnose and treat the various problems related to hearing, speech- language and swallowing.

Audiology

A series of diagnostic tests are administered to identify the cause, type and severity of difficulty in hearing or understanding speech. The tests available are

  • Pure tone audiometry (PTA)
  • Speech audiometry
  • Immittance audiometry and Eustachian tube dysfunction test (ETF)
  • Otoacoustic emissions (OAE)
  • Electrophysiological tests (BERA, MLR, LLR, ASSR, VEMP)
  • Infant hearing screening

Rehabilitation services available for individuals diagnosed with hearing loss who may not benefit from medical treatment include hearing aids, speech-language therapy, referral for cochlear implant, auditory verbal therapy and tinnitus retraining therapy.

Speech-Language Pathology

A comprehensive array of tests is administered and appropriate rehabilitative measures are undertaken to identify what is the speech-language or swallowing problem. Diagnostic and therapeutic services are available for delayed speech-language development, hearing impairment, voice problems, autism, aphasia, cleft of lip and palate, swallowing problems and various other disorders. Therapy sessions are provided under supervision of trained Speech-Language Pathologists. The number of therapy sessions to be provided and the timings are decided based on the need of each patient.
