Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital recognized as partner for Government of India

Government of India has chosen Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital, a unit of Nitte(Deemed to be University) to establish a Diagnostic Centre for Inherited Disorders, a DBT-UMMID Initiative to screen pregnant women and newborns in the Aspirational District Wayanad-Kerala.
Proposed Objectives
- To establish prenatal screening services at aspirational district hospital for high risk
pregnancies and hemoglobinopathies.
- To establish newborn screening services at aspirational district hospital to identify relatively
common treatable genetic metabolic disorders and to provide patient care
- To train the medical officers, nursing staff and other paramedical workers in the genetic
screening and counselling of pregnant mothers carrying foetuses with high risk of genetic
disorders in order to increase the awareness about hereditary disorders
