Overview
Oncology was inaugurated on 26.03.2013. It is a comprehensive cancer centre with Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology and Surgical Oncology with motto of integrated approach towards cancer management, supported by trained staff for patient counselling, well equipped day care center to cater both outpatient and inpatients and pain and palliative physicians. The department is treating patients from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikmangalore, Uttara Kannada, Shimoga, some parts of North Karnataka and neighbouring districts of Kerala. Recently we started Holiastic approach towards cancer management by meditation (Sanjeevini programme in association with Brahma Kumari) which helps to improve patient care, patient cure and better patient compliance and also parichay program by Reliance Life Sciences about Cancer awareness and treatment.
Medical Oncology
Started in the year 2015, the Medical Oncology unit of Leela Narayan Shetty Centre for Cancer Research, headed by Dr. Vijith Shetty is one of leading cancer treatment centres of Coastal Karnataka. Our experts follow evidence based treatment guidelines by internationally recognized bodies such as American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) as well as National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines for wide range of treatment modalities including Chemotherapy for all solid and hematological malignancies, Bone morrow transplant, Immunotherapy and target therapy for Breast, Colon, Lung, Gastrointestinal malignancies. The department is supported by an in-house cytogenetic lab and has been active in conducting cancer research in collaboration with other specialities. A multi-disciplinary tumor board is constituted to adopt best possible treatment approach and to ensure personalized treatment for every patient with the support of its surgical and radiation counterparts.
Faculty / OPD Schedule
Outpatient Department at Justice K. S Hegde Charitable Hospital runs on all days of the week including Sundays. OPD timings are from 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM and on Sundays from 9.00 AM to 1.00 PM.
