Overview

Pediatric surgery is one of the first Super-specialities to start functioning along with the inception of medical college hospital in the year 1999. Full-fledged Department was established in 2012 and now functions as a single unit with a Professor & Chief, an Associate consultant and a resident offering quality Pediatric surgical care.

This speciality has a combined strength of 20 beds including ward, Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) & Pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).

Faculty / OPD Schedule

Outpatient Department for superspecialities runs on all days except sunday. OPD timings are from 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM.

Our area of work includes the following surgical streams in children from new born to adolescents.

  • Thoracic Surgery ( Lung malformations, food pipe disorders)
  • Gastrointestinal & Hepatobiliary (Intestinal obstructions, Appendicitis, Liver and pancreas disorders)
  • Urology (Urinary infections, Hypospadias, Absent testis in scrotum, Kidney disorders).
  • Laparoscopy (Minimally invasive surgery).
  • Trauma Care (Chest and abdominal trauma).
  • 6 Surgical Oncology (Kidney tumors, other tumors of chest and abdomen).
  • 7 Neonatal Surgery (Malformations diagnosed during pregnancy).
  • 8 Congenital Reconstructive Surgery (Fused fingers, constrictions of limbs etc).

Surgery for hypospadias, Laparoscopic surgery, vascular access (Chemo ports, Hickman catheters) for Pediatric Oncology and surgical oncology for solid tumors are areas of special expertise.

We in pediatric surgery have progressed from the basic laparoscopic procedures like appendectomy, Orchidopexy to advanced procedures like Pyeloplasty for Uretero-pelvic junction obstruction, Cysto- gastrostomy for pseudo cyst of pancreas, fundoplication for gastro-oesophageal reflux disease etc.

With the recent acquisitions of Telescopic optical bronchoscope foreign bodies of airways are been retrieved with ease. Also 3mm laparoscopic instruments has allowed us to offer minimally invasive surgeries to neonates and infants.
